How Health Insurance Works in Florida

  • Florida uses the federal Marketplace, HealthCare.gov, for ACA plans.
  • Private PPO plans sold outside the Marketplace can be an option year-round for people who qualify, while Marketplace plans are limited to open enrollment or a special enrollment period.
  • Christine meets Florida clients by phone or video, and in person in South Florida when it helps.

Private PPO, HSA or Marketplace?

The extra Marketplace subsidies from 2021–2025 expired at the end of 2025. For 2027 coverage, households earning more than 400% of the federal poverty level don't qualify for premium tax credits, which is exactly where many 1099 professionals and business owners land.

That's why Christine starts with private PPO and HSA-qualified options, then compares them side by side with HealthCare.gov plans, so you choose with confidence instead of guessing.

Questions Florida Clients Ask Christine

For Marketplace (ACA) plans, you generally need open enrollment or a qualifying life event such as losing other coverage, moving or having a baby. Some private plans sold outside the Marketplace accept applications year-round for people who qualify. Christine can tell you which options are open to you right now.
